Vol. 22: Jodi Katzin

Vol. 22: Jodi Katzin

Today I get to introduce you to Jodi Katzin. She's an Occupational Therapist and Eating Psychology Coach. We've been friends for a number of years meeting for coffees and lunches and chatting about entrepreneurship and life. One time we unknowingly found ourselves on the same yoga retreat together, which was super-lovely. Jodi has such a positive energy, she often responds to my newsletters with words of encouragement and support. Jodi decided to become certified as an Eating Psychology Coach because she has personally struggled with food and a negative body image. As a result, she's made it her mission to help others in this area. Jodi created Just Be Coaching to help women heal food and body issues, learn to name, feel and manage emotions, and regulate their nervous systems. She does this with gentle guidance and compassion. She's diving deep into self-care today, and I think you might just learn some new tips from her.

Tell me about your morning routine: I have to admit that I'm not always consistent with my morning routine. When I'm consistent I realize how positively it impacts my day and overall mood. Right now I avoid looking at my phone upon waking, other then to turn off my alarm. I do the daily 10 min Calm meditation on the app and read a few pages from a book (I am currently reading a book about all the different chakras and how to balance them). Then I pull an affirmation card from my Love Powered Co. deck and journal. I write down 3 things that I am grateful for, 3 things that would make my day great, my intention for how I want to feel that day, something that I love about myself and an affirmation. I then do a little essential oil ritual that I learned at a retreat I attended with bergamot, cedar wood and lavender. I jot down 3-5 to-do's for the day in my planner and make my bed. And then go to the kitchen and have water with the juice of 1/2 a lemon.

What's your feel-good beverage of choice? I love a hot cup of tea - it has to be burning hot!! I find peppermint or chamomile to be the most soothing but I do enjoy most decaf teas.

What are your favourite books or podcasts that you keep coming back to? I am a podcast junkie because I spend so much time in the car! I love Mel Robbins, Gabby Bernstein, Glennon Doyle and so many others. I also have a couple of friends who have amazing podcasts, I highly recommend Once Upon a Food Story and Dear Found Her.

What does your weekly movement routine look like? I love my Peloton and the app. It's perfect if I just want a short workout and I love the variety of workouts that it offers. I end up doing a ride a few times a week because I just love the energy of the instructors and the music. I build in strength workouts too and try to get outside for walks, but not as often as I would like to. I also attend a yoga class Monday mornings which I find sets me up mentally for the week ahead.

Do you have any supplements that you swear by? I was always afraid to take CBD oil but I have been taking The Blend from The Holistic Health Genius and love it. While I have always had relatively good sleeps, they seem deeper now and I am not waking as often to go to the bathroom. I am taking many of her other products as well - acids, seamoss, aqua, colloidal silver. It is hard to tease out the benefits of each one, but I feel good on them.

Tell us a little bit about your top values and why they're important to you. I value connection - especially after COVID, I find that I really crave in person connections and ones that go deep. I also value kindness and compassion - I like to make those in my close circles feel super cared for and held, the way that I would always want to be treated. Over the years, I have also improved my ability to set boundaries, mostly around protecting my time to give space for self-care and other activities that are important to me.

What's your number one indulgence? Chocolate and wine - TIED :)

Do you have a regular appointment that supporst your well-being? I know in this day and age there is less stigma around mental health and therapy, which is great. My weekly appointment with my therapist is one that I truly rely on! I feel like everyone can use a space to be seen and heard, as well as an objective ear and sounding board.

Tell us about a feel-good product that you're obsessed with: I got introduced to Castor oil packs. When I first heard about them and saw the product, it seemed really strange to me!! But sleeping with a liver pack truly provides a deeper sleep and helps with bloating as well. I am loving them. I also use one on my thyroid a few times a week. My family thinks I am bonkers, lol, but there are so many benefits.
